A beginner’s guide to the 3 types of animation courses

We know how much the cartoons like Dragon Ball Z, Pokemon, Beyblade, etc. must have fascinated you in your childhood. And more recently, movies like Life of Pi, Up, Tintin, Cars, etc. will always have a special place in people’s hearts. Times have changed, technologies have evolved, and the world has transformed, but people still love animation. There are many types of animations depending on different technologies, which you can learn through animation courses.

Before getting to know different animation courses, first, let’s understand what animation is — In simple words, animation is nothing but creating an illusion of motion through still images. The science behind animation is that our eyes can only retain a picture for about 1/10th of a second. Therefore, when many pictures appear in quick succession, the brain perceives it as a form of motion.

So now you know what exactly animation means, let’s see the different types of animation courses that are available —

i) 3D Animation

Currently, 3D is the most popular type of animation. It is also referred to as Computer Generated Imagery (CGI). In 3D animation, the animator uses a digital character and a system of motion paths to define their character’s movement. It is usually used in movies, walkthroughs, games, scientific and medical visualization, etc.

To master the skills of 3D animation, one needs to be well-versed with computers and knowledge about some prominent software. Arena animation courses equip its students with all the practical and technical skills in 3D animation. You can learn the software applications used in the industry, i.e., Autodesk Maya, Blender, Cinema 4D, etc.

ii) Vector Animation

Vector Animation means the animation in which the motion is controlled by vectors rather than pixels. It is commonly known as 2D animation. It is generally used for creating animated videos, advertisements, cartoons, educational material, games, etc.

This is ideal for someone who isn’t very good at drawing. 2D animation uses mathematical values to resize pictures for smooth motion. It consists of paths defined by a start and endpoint.

Arena Animation offers animation and multimedia courses in Gandhinagar where you can learn how to make a variety of graphic designs using industry-standard tools like Adobe Animate CC, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Character Animator, etc.

iii) Motion Graphics

Motion graphics mainly involves creating lively and engrossing presentations of moving text and illustrations. This can either be 2D or 3D. Technically, if we talk about character animation, then it doesn’t fall in line with motion graphics. But many of the fundamental principles of animation apply to motion graphics as well. Motion graphics are generally used to communicate something to the viewer.

The process of creating motion graphics would depend on the software or application used. That is because it can be created using similar software, the settings or UI may differ.

So now we hope that you have understood the three types of animation, how they are created, and where they are used. With a clear idea in your mind, you can opt for any of these courses that seem suitable according to your ability.
